Xiaomi 15 Long-Term Review After 8 Months – Battery, Gaming & Camera Test (2026)

Six years. That’s how long I held onto my Redmi K20 Pro before the Xiaomi 15 finally tempted me to upgrade. Eight months later, I’m still deciding if it was worth it — and the answer might surprise you.

Why I Bought the Xiaomi 15

Before making the switch, I had been using the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro as my daily driver for more than six years, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus handled much of my work and productivity needs.

After years with the K20 Pro, I wanted my next smartphone to feel like a meaningful upgrade—not just a newer phone. My priorities were clear: flagship-level performance, a compact and comfortable design, a high-quality display, capable cameras, and software support that would keep the phone relevant for years. I set my budget at around ₹80,000.

I considered three strong contenders: the Vivo iQOO 13, Apple iPhone 16, and Xiaomi 15. The base iPhone 16 with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage was priced around ₹79,990, which made it harder to justify when competing Android phones offered higher-refresh-rate displays, larger batteries, faster charging, and more versatile hardware at a similar price.

The display was another major consideration. After using an older smartphone for years, I wanted a smooth, high-refresh-rate panel without unnecessary distractions. The Xiaomi 15 stood out with its compact 6.36-inch LTPO OLED display and 120Hz refresh rate, offering a comfortable in-hand experience without sacrificing flagship performance.

Here’s how the three phones compared on the specifications that mattered most to me:

For me, the Xiaomi 15 offered the most balanced combination of compact size, flagship performance, display quality, cameras, battery capacity, and charging. That balance ultimately made it the phone I chose for my next long-term upgrade.

Performance

Gaming performance was a major factor in my decision. I regularly play Genshin Impact, and after version 5.0, my Snapdragon 855-powered Redmi K20 Pro started struggling with overheating and frame drops.

Genshin Impact on high settings? Smooth as butter — no stuttering, no sudden frame drops that make you miss a boss attack. The phone gets warm, sure, but it never crossed into ‘uncomfortable to hold’ territory. Storage was also important since Genshin requires over ~50GB of free space.

During extended gaming sessions, the Xiaomi 15 does warm up, which is quite expected from a compact smartphone. Smaller phones typically have limited space for heat dissipation compared to larger devices, so they tend to heat up more quickly under heavy load.

However, Xiaomi has implemented effective thermal management. The device cools down relatively fast once the intensive task is reduced or stopped, returning to a normal temperature without affecting overall performance significantly.

Design, Features & In-Hand Comfort

The Xiaomi 15 offers:

  • 50W wireless charging
  • eSIM support
  • 4 years of major OS updates + 2 years of security patches
  • Compact and premium build quality

The 6.3-inch display size feels ergonomic and easy to use with one hand. The phone strikes a balance between portability and flagship performance.

Camera Performance After 8 Months

The triple 50MP camera system is one of the strongest aspects of the Xiaomi 15. During a recent trip near Raipur, I tested the camera in multiple lighting conditions.

Daytime Camera Samples

Color balance, sharpness, and dynamic range are impressive. Low-light performance is reliable, and Leica Vibrant mode adds a rich and lively look that makes photos social media-ready without heavy editing.

Changing Lighting Conditions or Low Light Photography

The primary 50MP sensor performs consistently well, and I really enjoy photography. It delivers good photos with remarkably fewer grains. The same photo taken with a different lens can sometimes show a minor color difference, and the ultra-wide occasionally struggles in challenging lighting conditions.

Video Recording

Video quality is generally good with strong color reproduction and detail retention. The main camera delivers stable and sharp footage, though minor stabilization inconsistencies can appear occasionally.

This footage, captured while navigating the hills of Mainpat, showcases the device’s impressive zooming capabilities and stable dynamic range under rainy clouds. Enabling Dolby Vision recording transforms the video quality, delivering punchy, vivid contrast and eye-pleasing color tones right out of the camera.

However, there is a thermal limitation to keep in mind during extended shoots. Under heavy workloads—particularly in summer ambient temperatures exceeding 35°C—the compact chassis struggles to dissipate heat fast enough. This thermal buildup can cause the capture frame rate to drop, occasionally resulting in minor micro-stutters or a slightly jittery appearance in your final footage.

Low Light Video

Testing the front-facing camera in low-light environments reveals usable performance for casual video calls and vlogging, though it hits some predictable hardware limits. While the sensor introduces noticeable digital noise and grain in dark areas, facial features remain clear and easily recognizable. It gets the job done for quick social updates, but you will want to seek out better ambient lighting to maximize sharpness.

Battery Performance

After using the Xiaomi 15 as my daily driver for over 8 months, the battery performance has remained reliable and consistent. The device is equipped with a ~5000 mAh battery, which is good for a compact smartphone and comfortably supports full-day usage under normal conditions.

As of now, my unit shows 98% battery health, which is quite impressive and within expected standards after eight months of regular use. This indicates stable battery optimization and long-term durability.

Xiaomi 15 Battery as a Daily Driver

I don’t have to charge my smartphone too often; it lasts over 18 hours in moderate use of YouTube, Internet surfing, and the camera, and on many occasions I used it without charging for over 30+ hours.

I’m not a ‘charge my phone three times a day’ person. On a typical day — YouTube, browsing, some photos — I’d end with 30-40% left. My screen-on time averaged 4-5 hours. Not record-breaking, but I never panicked about finding a charger.

  • Battery Drain Pattern: Stable and predictable
  • Standby Efficiency: Good

In approximately 60 minutes of consistent gaming on high graphics settings, I observed a battery drop of around 48-50%. This indicates that heavy AAA titles like Genshin Impact can significantly impact battery life. In short:

  • 60 minutes of continuous gaming: 48-50% drop
  • Device Temperature: Warms up but cools down quickly ( without any frame drop)

Who Should (and Shouldn’t) Buy This

Buy it if: You want flagship power in a pocketable size, you value camera versatility, and you’re okay with average battery life under heavy gaming.

Skip it if: You’re a hardcore mobile gamer who needs 6+ hours of screen-on time, or you want 5+ years of OS updates (iPhone wins there).

Final Verdict After 8 Months

After long-term usage, the Xiaomi 15 proves to be a well-balanced flagship smartphone in 2026. It offers strong performance, reliable cameras, a long 4 years and an additional 2 years of software support and security patches, and comfortable ergonomics.

Eight months in, the Xiaomi 15 isn’t perfect — the battery takes a hit when you push it, and the compact body has thermal limits. But for someone who wants a phone that feels just right in the hand, takes photos they’re proud to share, and doesn’t punish them for choosing smaller? It’s the best value for money I’ve spent in years.
